Women Ordination : A New History in Mizoram

The principal of AICS (Academy of Integrated Christian Studies), Professor Dr.RL Hnuni is going to make a new history in Mizoram. She is the first women to be ordained as minister among the churches of Mizoram.

In the religious aspect ordination generally means the consecration of a person to perform various religious rites and for administration. Particularly among the Churches of Mizoram the ordination of women remains a controversial issue and traditionally it has been restricted to men till date. However, the Assembly executive committee of the BCM (Baptist Church of Mizoram) held on 18th Jan 2012 had passed the ordination of Dr.RL Hnuni. This agenda had gone through earlier discussion in the pastoral committee (BCM) last year and it has been processed and put up to the Assembly executive committee. According to the constitution of BCM (Baptist Church of Mizoram) ordination requires the approval of Assembly executive committee by 2/3 majority of the votes (in the assembly executive committee). Dr.RL Hnuni wins 121 votes out of 151 votes. She will be ordained in the Assembly of BCM which is going to be held in March 2012.

    God bless!
